Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Sea Life Programs at Rookery Bay

Adults and children can explore the wonders of sea life and marine mammals on Wednesdays and Fridays this summer at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve, in Naples.

A summer Wednesday lecture series that continues through August 15 includes wine and cheese in the gallery starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program from 6 to 7 p.m.

The facility’s summer education program provides free admission from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays for children 12 and younger that are accompanied by an adult. Educators will present a different topic each week, through September 7, related to artist Sigrid Tidmore’s Ocean’s Edge: The Corridor of Life art exhibit, featuring 39 colorful paintings of sea life, birds, flowers and the environment. Activities also include a touch tank, kids’ crafts, story time, box lunches for sale, a virtual dolphin program and a marine mammal movie.

Cost for summer lecture series: $10/non-members, $8/members. Registration recommended. Location: 300 Tower Rd. For more information, call 239-417-6310 or visit RookeryBay.org.
