Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Environmentally Speaking

On June 26, at 10:30 a.m., Houston Cypress will speak at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Myers, located at 13411 Shire Lane, in Fort Myers. The Two-Spirit poet, artist and activist from the Otter Clan of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida founded the Love the Everglades Movement to implement evolving strategies across the full spectrum of being, which addresses the environmental, structural, cultural and spiritual problems plaguing the Florida Everglades.

By raising awareness and organizing positive community engagement at the local, regional, national and global levels, Houston Cypress is blazing trails through the bush to tell the story of the endangered beauty of the natural environment which made such an impression on him during his childhood – being a refuge for his ancestors and the source of traditional plant medicines – that he grew to find ways to articulate strategies for preserving this World Heritage Site.
