A panel discussion, The State of Estero Bay: Challenges and Solutions, will take place at Lovers Key State Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m., February 10, in the community room of the Discovery Center, featuring the region’s foremost experts on water quality. This presentation is fourth in a series of monthly discussions sponsored by Friends of Lovers Key, What You See on the Land, Lands in the Sea, focusing on the state of coastal eco-systems and restoration efforts. Attendees will learn about the most recent efforts to restore the health of Estero Bay watershed and what can be done to support them.

Speakers include Dr. James Douglass, associate professor of marine and ecological sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU); Matt Feeney, assistant city manager of Bonita Springs; Dr. Michael Parsons, professor of marine science and director of the FGCU Vester field station Water School; and Bonita Water Steward Nicole Weigold, marine scientist at FGCU Vester field station.

Estero Bay and its tributaries are polluted. Once abundant seagrasses are in decline, threatening fresh and saltwater habitats, endangered species and the long-term quality of marine life in Southwest Florida.
