Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Heal Naturally with Acupuncture and Herbal Chinese Medicine

With 30 years of experience, Dr. Xiu Qiong Cen, an acupuncture physician and owner of the Acupuncture Center of Naples, offers a variety of services for men and women of all ages that are interested in acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

Cen, who is also a doctor of Oriental medicine, earned her medical degree in 1983 from Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in Guangzhou, China, and completed a residency at the Hospital of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, also in Guangzhou.

A member of the American Acupuncture Association and the Florida Acupuncture Association, Cen has been using her knowledge of acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, herbal medicine, supplements, moxibustion and acupuncture with electrical stimulation to treat patients in Naples for more than 20 years.

Acupuncture, a form of primary health care, is based on TCM principles and modern Oriental medical techniques that employ acupuncture diagnosis and treatment, as well as adjunctive therapies and diagnostic techniques for the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health and prevention of disease. Acupuncture includes, but is not limited to, the insertion of acupuncture needles and the application of moxibustion to specific areas of the body, as well as the use of electroacupuncture, qigong, Oriental massage, herbal therapy, dietary guidelines and other therapies.

Moxibustion, which plays an important role in TCM therapy, consists of burning dried mugwort leaves on particular points on the body. The heat helps to stimulate acupuncture points and improves the flow of energy through the body’s meridians.

Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture in which a weak electric current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. This practice may augment the use of regular acupuncture and can be good for treating pain.

Qigong, which can harmonize, strengthen and bring about a healing effect on the functioning of internal organs and bodily systems, can increase the supply and flow of energy throughout the body. It has a variety of rejuvenating effects such as inducing calm mental and emotional states.

“TCM is a complete medical system that has been practiced for more than 2,500 years, making it the world's oldest medical profession. It views every aspect of a person's body, mind, spirit and emotions as part of one complete circle, rather than loosely connected pieces to be treated individually,” says Cen.
