Three Health Hacks

Feb 28, 2021 03:38PM ● By Sue Mahany

During the pandemic, the most common health tips have been on eating right, exercising, reducing stress and getting enough sleep, all of which support the immune system. Not commonly mentioned are three health hacks that can provide significant returns with a relatively small investment and little effort.

Drink hydrogen water

New to the wellness scene, hydrogen water has been called the “the best antioxidant out there” by Dr. Joseph Mercola, author and wellness game-changer. As the smallest molecule, hydrogen penetrates cell walls and the blood-brain barrier. It also has the unique property of selectively neutralizing damaging byproducts of oxidation without damaging the helpful byproducts.

Create hydrogen water once a day by dropping a tablet of molecular hydrogen in room-temperature water and wait for it to dissolve. Drink it immediately. Because hydrogen reduces inflammation and oxidation, it directly addresses the two leading causes of aging. Hydrogen tablets can be found on Mercola.com for approximately $1 each.

Create a daily eating window

Healthline.com lists 10 evidence-based benefits of intermittent fasting—increased cellular repair, increased fat burning, reduced insulin resistance and reduced inflammation.

Choosing any nine-hour window within a 24-hour period as an “eating window” naturally creates a 15-hour period where the body is not required to digest food, leaving it to do other regenerative tasks.

This nine-hour eating window can change based on the needs of the day. For example, a dinner with friends that ends at 9 p.m. means adding 15 hours until eating another meal until at least noon the next day. Making sure to eat a couple of good meals and snacks within the eating window helps to avoid experiencing hunger during this regenerative period.

Supplement with two key basics

Much conclusive evidence exists for lowering the incidence of disease with adequate (40 to 60 nanograms/milliliter) blood levels of vitamin D. An estimated 42 percent of Americans are deficient. Because vitamins A and K are cofactors for the absorption of D, combination remedies with vitamins A, D and K are best.

Magnesium is another key supplement. An estimated 75 percent of individuals are deficient in magnesium, involved in more than 600 metabolic and biochemical processes. It is also an essential nutrient for the electrical activity of the heart. Dissolving magnesium powder in a glass of water in the evening ensures sufficient magnesium intake and helps to relax the body for a good night’s sleep.
