Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Volunteers Needed to Plan Calusa Palooza 2020

Calusa Waterkeeper will produce Calusa Palooza, the sequel to Big Calusa 2019, on March 22. “Additionally, the largest ever cleanup of our region's waterways will take place beginning March 14, culminating March 22,” says K.C. Schulberg, Calusa Waterkeeper executive director, who notes that volunteers are needed to plan, organize and conduct event festivities. Those interested should meet at the Collaboratory, 2031 Jackson Street, in Fort Myers, from 5 to 7 p.m. on February 20 and 24.

The festival will include kayak and paddle board races, a paleontology exhibit, nature workshop, a Calusa River master naturalist tour, boating safety training, fishing tutorial for kids, live mermaid show, Calusa Waterkeeper Ranger testing demo, on-land rowing demonstration, food trucks, beer sales and vendors.

The water-themed education and entertainment event will culminate with a twilight Concert for Clean Water in downtown Fort Myers’ Centennial Park featuring St. Petersburg favorites Elly & Company and headliners The Original Eagles Tribute Band, Hotel California. “Together, we will create something truly exceptional, a day that entertains, educates and promotes clean water all-year long,” advises Schulberg.
