Traditional Chinese Massage Prevents Energy Stagnation

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is important for qi, the body’s energy, to flow continuously to prevent stress and disease. TCM practitioners use bodywork therapies such as acupuncture and acupressure, as well as massage, to prevent energy from stagnating.

Traditional Chinese massage includes tui na and zhi ya, two styles of Chinese bodywork that have been refined over more than 4,000 years. Practiced today by massage therapists all over the world, traditional Chinese massage manipulates the meridian system of inner energy points and pathways to balance an individual’s qi. Pathways with limited flow are opened and cleared using hand pressure to restore balance and energy circulation, as well as to encourage improved overall health.

Zhi Ya involves techniques of acupressure to locate some points on the body. When pressed, these points can relieve muscle stress and strain and helping the nervous system to function better.

Much like Western massage, tui na involves pushing, kneading and stretching muscles, as well as pinching and pressing techniques similar to acupressure, reflexology and qigong.
