The winds and rain of Hurricane Irma may have succeeded in putting Shelle and John Misiorowski, owners of Trim and Tone Med Spa, in Naples, temporarily out of business for four months, but the couple didn’t let the natural disaster get the best of them. “The full fury of the extreme wind blew so many leaves onto the roof of the building the leaves clogged the drains and the water accumulated until it turned into a big swimming pool, the weight of which caved in the roof and ceiling of our spa, where John had just installed a beautiful new floor.

I kept repeating, ‘God doesn’t give us more than we can handle,’ until I believed everything was going to be okay. I knew we couldn’t just throw in the towel, because we’d finally realized our dream of becoming a med spa,” says Shelle, whose optimism and creativity prevailed long past the landlord’s moving of the spa equipment into their home until the building damage could be repaired.

To transform a traditional spa into a medical spa and offer nonsurgical cosmetic services such as laser treatment, microdermabrasion and botox injections involved fundamental changes that the Misiorowski’s gladly embraced.

“We needed to find a supervising physician. Since we’d already had a great working relationship and many referrals from the husband and wife team of Dr. Christopher Ham and Michelle Ham, advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP), the owners of Destiny Nirvana, in Naples, it was a no-brainer transition,” explains Shelle, whose excitement over the new med services that would be offered at Trim & Tone had to be curtailed until the spa reopened.

At medical spas in Florida, clients that wish to undergo a medical procedure must first consult with and be examined in person by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant. In Florida, ARNPs can order and perform injections.

“John and I are excited about our collaboration with Dr. Ham, who has 20 years of experience as a board-certified emergency physician and Michelle, who has been involved in the medical field for 20 years. We love how Michelle combines her passion for personal fitness and cosmetic training with medical procedural aesthetics,” enthuses Shelle.
