Genelle Grant Helps Change Lives

Genelle Grant, president of the board of directors of the Happehatchee Center, in Estero, was part of an all-volunteer Guatemalan Rural Adult and Children’s Education (GRACE) Project group that visited the country in November to inform girls and women about health issues such as menstrual management and family planning. Presentations and workshops included distribution of 260 Days for Girls kits in rural regions. WGCU Public Media news reporter Jessica Meszaros also attended to produce segments to air on the radio station.

“Most of them wouldn’t be able to afford the items we provided,” says Grant, who founded the GRACE Project, which provides family and reproductive health, music, art and teacher training for indigenous, Latina and farmworker women, youth, community leaders and educators in Southwest Florida and Central America, has visited Guatemala at least once a year for the last 12 years.
