Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Wynn’s Market Looks Out for Customers

Ever since Don Wynn opened the Sunshine Super Market on Fifth Avenue in 1948, the Wynn family has been recognized by Neapolitans for their choices in top-of-the-line groceries, produce, meats and baked goods. Now located on Ninth Street, Wynn’s Market continues to uphold that same level of quality. Always responsive to customer demand, the market embraces the increasing environmental and health concerns of its patrons: in every department, more than 30 percent of Wynn’s products are certified natural or organic.

“Continuing research has shown that organic and natural products help maintain soil and water quality in the areas where they are produced, while also providing consumers with pure and chemical-free tastes,” remarks Jacquie Roecker, Wynn’s Market organic food specialist.

Wynn’s natural and organic trend is also notable in both cold case and warm, prepared deli offerings, which include heart-healthy meals prepared from recipes that follow American Heart Association guidelines. “We have begun by offering three heart healthy entrees every week. Our intention is to build the variety as our seasonal traffic increases. My goal is eventually to have a rotating menu that features as many as 20 items, including several organic soups,” says Brenda Melillo, deli manager.

So far, heart-healthy selections such as sesame ginger pork patty with grilled pineapple, white bean and potato gnocchi, and pork tenderloin with wild mushrooms have developed a customer following that rivals long-time cold case favorites like poached salmon, quinoa and kale salad. “I’m sure that our stuffed turkey meatloaf with a side dish of brown rice will remain a customer favorite,” comments Melillo, who has a 14-year background in the field.

“I relocated to Naples nearly three years ago specifically to be Wynn’s deli manager. The Rhode Island community where I previously lived and worked was very heart conscious, and I wanted to make sure that Wynn’s followed that trend, because it’s the direction that a large percentage of our health-conscious population is embracing,” Melillo advises.

Wynn’s Market is located at 141 Ninth St. N., Naples. For more information, call 239-261-7157 or visit WynnsOnline.com.
