Cancer Survivor Support Program at Bonita YMCA

The next edition of LIVESTRONG, a 12-week, small-group program designed for adult cancer survivors, will begin from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., January 15, at the Bonita Springs YMCA and continue each Tuesday and Thursday at the same time. The program supports the increasing number of cancer survivors in the transitional period between completing treatment and shifting to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to normal life.

Participants are taught how to develop their own physical fitness program, learn to build muscle mass and strength; increase flexibility and endurance; improve functional ability; reduce the severity of therapy side effects; prevent unwanted weight changes; and improve energy levels and self-esteem. The supportive environment provides a sense of community with fellow survivors, the YMCA staff and members.

YMCA fitness instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post-rehab exercise and supportive cancer care. They work with each participant to tailor the program to their individual needs. A physician’s referral is required.
