Natural Awakenings Naples and Fort Myers

Kudos - Keep Collier Beautiful

The Lorenzo Walker Technical High School Green Club is Keep Collier Beautiful’s latest partner in protecting the county’s 400-plus miles of waterways. In adopting two canals in Golden Gate City, the club has begun conducting once-a-month outings to clean up sections of the canals.

School Principal Yolanda Flores notes that since the club started in 2009, the school has become more environmentally conscious and implemented a broader recycling program. “Our kids care about the future and our environment,” she says. “Projects like this help them see how they can get involved.”

Keep Collier Beautiful—a nonprofit organization with the mission of public education outreach, improving litter and marine debris control and prevention, and recycling—has partnered with the Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Big Cypress Basin to recruit local businesses, civic associations, students and concerned residents to protect county waterways.
