Natural Awakenings Publishing Corp., (NAPC) in Naples, the national headquarters for more than 85 Natural Awakenings editions throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and NaturalAwakeningsMag.com, was recently certified by the city’s Department of Natural Resources and its NPower Program as a Naples Certified Green Business. “Our publications and website are devoted to news, advice and tips on healthy living and a healthy planet, so we are especially honored to receive this distinction,” says founder Sharon Bruckman.
Cloe Waterfield, MS, the NPower project manager and head of TwentyFifty, LLC, a sustainability firm in Naples, says, “We were impressed that NAPC operates in an active mode that directly complements what they publish.” Some of the features cited by Waterfield include using 100 percent recycled newsprint (fulfilling one of the program’s criteria that companies use at least one recycled product); expending less than the local average of KW hours per square foot via task lighting fixtures instead of extensive overhead lights and using a digital, programmable thermostat; and keeping recycling bins by all desks.
