Residents, members and guests of Pelican Bay in Naples are conserving energy by being transported around the community in a new solar/electric tram system set up by Sarasota-based Eco-Trans Alliance and Cruise Car Inc. It’s estimated the sun will power 800,000 rides annually.

The community plans to ultimately utilize 40 vehicles, each equipped with a 460-watt solar charging system that produces 400 kWh of electricity, to reduce its total carbon footprint by 22,000 pounds of C02 annually.
